Residents in Kibera slum are experiencing extreme poverty and lack social services e.g., clean water, hospitals and schools. In the slum, unemployment is outrageous. Women are marginalized in the society and burdened to support their household. In order to empower women economically, the Women Organization has initiated entrepreneurial working groups. The groups will create and sell traditional handicrafts and jewelries, while the gain will be used to pay school fees and boost food and nutritional security for several households. From the video below, you will learn more on the role of women in Kibera slum.
